Description

This is a concise authority on the spectrum of vascular diseases. An accompanying website provides excellent accessibility to the material. The previous edition was published in 2013.

Purpose

This book provides foundational knowledge in vascular surgery, disease processes and basic management principles, often with technical information. It meets its objective to serve as a comprehensive treatise and reference for the management of patients with vascular disease.

Audience

The audience is anyone who takes care of patients with vascular disease, in particular vascular surgeons and trainees who rotate through vascular surgical services. The author, Dr. Moore, is an internationally recognized authority on vascular surgery and has recruited experts in the field to author the individual chapters (i.e. Tang and Kohler – Anatomy, Physiology, and Pharmacology of the Vascular Wall; Zierler – Hemodynamics; Shalhub and Starnes- Aortic Dissection; Weaver – Peripheral Aneurysms; Jayaraj – Chronic Venous Obstruction; Mansukhani and Kibbe – Neointimal Hyperplasia).

Features

This book covers all of vascular and endovascular surgery. The sections are well organized and the chapters concise but full of all the essential information, including natural history of diseases, workup, management, and complications. This edition provides new chapters and information and has been reorganized for better readability.

Assessment

This is one of the fundamental books in the field of vascular surgery and should be on every surgeon’s bookshelf next to Rutherford’s Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, 9th edition, Sidawy et al. (Elsevier, 2019), and Anatomic Exposures in Vascular Surgery, 3rd edition, Wind and Valentine (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2013). This edition appears to be an improvement on the 2013 edition.
